The Museum of the American West Is Now Open

Beginning June 1, the Museum of the American West will resume normal hours.  The MAW will open with appropriate social distancing protections for Covid-19. The pioneer village and exhibits will be made available under a  "Please look BUT do not touch" policy.

Welcome to The Museum of the American West, the only institution to celebrate the diverse peoples who utilized the critical geography of what is now central Wyoming to shape the American frontier.

We are located in beautiful Lander, Wyoming,
on US 287, on the way to
Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks and adjacent to Lander's central
commercial district.

Wind River Range.

  • PIONEER VILLAGE LIVING HISTORY
    The heart of the Museum of the American West: ten historic buildings depicting pioneer living from 1880 - 1930. 
  • EAGLE SPIRIT DANCERS
    Summer dances featuring Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapahoe dancers from the Wind River Indian Reservation.
  • EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING
    Our educational research environment and serves as an extension of the classroom for students of all ages.
  • FACILITY RENTAL
    Weddings, reunions, parties and more . . . contact us to reservthe Livery Stable, St. Matthew's Church, or our covered pavilion.
